Rab Apparel
Like many of the companies that have made a name for their brand in the highly competitive outdoor gear and apparel sector, Rab began with the humblest of beginnings.Â
In 1981, Rab Carrington made the first sleeping bag to bear his name, working from the attic of a small house in Sheffield. Drawing upon his years of personal experience from vantage points on various mountainsides, he funneled all that knowledge into the project, handstitching what he believed would be a superior design. With that first launch, demand from friends and the surrounding local climbing community quickly grew. Soon that humble attic became a factory floor and the product line grew to include jackets as well. Today, the Rab design can be found in products around the world, outfitting adventurous individuals of all walks.Â

Rest assured that when you purchase a Rab product, you are purchasing from a company that cares about the community as well as the world.Â
Rab has analyzed the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, identifying areas where they can begin to make a difference. The company is focusing on five key areas to start: health, equality, a sustainable economy, responsible production and the climate.Â
From building a work environment of inclusivity and diversity to supporting and celebrating personal growth, Rab has begun its focus on health and equality with its own employees. From there, it has moved out into the community. Rab partners with grassroots organizations in Europe and North America to support access to the great outdoors for all. The company works with schools, colleges and employers to help young people defy limitations and enjoy adventures in the great outdoors. In addition, Rab employees get time off to give back to the community as volunteers in a number of capacities.Â
To address the product component of its sustainability goals, Rab apparel is now manufactured with 63% recycled fabrics, up from 46% just two years ago. Carbon emissions per product have been reduced 17.4% compared to 2019. Over half of the down used in its products is now recycled. The company purchases more recycled resources than virgin. All virgin wool is certified Responsible Down Standard. Leather is sourced only from animals that were bred for meat production. The company ensures all animal products are sourced from animals and poultry that have been humanely treated throughout their lives and products are sourced according to a set of welfare standards.Â
The company is also Certified Climate Neutral for the third straight year. The company is also dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of its packaging. The company is partnering with the European Outdoor Group to create a way for single-use plastic packaging to be collected and recycled by brands and businesses, rather than placing the burden on consumers.
